Gunnison Valley has gone 9-1 against Monticello recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will welcome the Buckaroo at 2:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Gunnison Valley's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while Monticello has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
Things were looking good for Gunnison Valley after they put the first runs on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 12-9 to San Juan.
Peyton Sanders made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Dillon Dyreng was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Monticello hadn't done well against North Sevier recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Buckaroo narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Wolves 12-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Buckaroo have posted since April 26, 2024.
Triston Felix made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Monticello's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't). Felix was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Arturo Guiterrez, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Kord Young, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Monticello kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Monticello's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Gunnison Valley, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 12-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Gunnison Valley has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Monticello struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Gunnison Valley's way against Monticello in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Gunnison Valley made off with a 10-0 victory. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Buckaroo turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
