The Canyon del Oro Dorados's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Flowing Wells, falling 53-19. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Canyon del Oro in their matchups with Flowing Wells: they've now lost four in a row.
Several Dorados players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Halie Fuller, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. Fuller is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last 16 games she's played. Madisyn Kunze was another key contributor, scoring three points along with four steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Canyon del Oro struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Flowing Wells pulled down 31 offensive rebounds.
Flowing Wells found their leader in underclassman Brianna Potter, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Potter hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Nevaeh Urenda, who scored ten points along with six steals and five rebounds.
Canyon del Oro dropped their record down to 7-14 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.0 points per game. As for Flowing Wells, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canyon del Oro will face off against Sabino at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Sabino is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games. Flowing Wells won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Cholla at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Cholla will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 274th, while Flowing Wells is ranked 45th).
