AAAA Region II recap Oct. 30, 2012
Gaffney's Hyleck Foster rumbled for the longest rushing play in AAAA Region II this season in his game against Boiling Springs last week. Foster's team topped the Bulldogs as he sprinted for 65 yards on the play and finished with 302 in all.
Boiling Springs was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after falling to Gaffney. Bruce Clark's team came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 26 last week.
Byrnes's dynamic duo of Shuler Bentley and Akia Booker proved tough for Dorman to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Bentley threw for 291 yards and four touchdowns and Booker had 103 yards receiving. Shaedon Meadors helped Byrnes' passing attack out by catching three balls for 87 yards.
The Rebels' Bentley and Booker have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Bentley has thrown for 3585 yards this season, while Booker, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 65 catches for 1231 yards. Foster from Dan Jones' team leads the league in rushing with 1037 yards.
Two highly touted recruits will be in the spotlight when the Indians and Spartanburg meet this week. Gaffney features well-regarded sophomore T.j. Haney while the Vikings has Justin Bridges-Thompson, a sought after senior.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Byrnes takes on Wade Hampton. Chris Miller's team is in first place, while the Generals are in fourth place.
The Indians extended the longest winning streak in AAAA Region II this week by beating the Bulldogs, 48-35. The win marks fourth in a row for the Gaffney.
