The Germantown Red Devils will venture away from home to face off against the DeSoto Central Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Germantown will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
Germantown is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Memphis Central: they outscored them in every quarter. The Red Devils blew past the Warriors 45-21 on Friday. Given the Red Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked 28th, while the Warriors are ranked 113th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when DeSoto Central challenged Charleston on Friday. The Jaguars really took it to the Tigers for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-14 win. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Jaguars had established a 34-point advantage.
Germantown better keep an eye on Eric Perry. He was instrumental in DeSoto Central's win, rushing for 100 yards and three scores on only seven carries, while also throwing for 122 yards and a pair of TDs on only seven passes. That's the most passing yards Perry has posted since back in November of 2024. Cade Rodgers was another key player, rushing for 177 yards and one touchdown while picking up 8.0 yards per carry.
DeSoto Central was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 345 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 191 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
One reason for the win was DeSoto Central's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 3.5 sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Landon Caradine, Kalen Higgs, and Tyler Brasswell, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Germantown's victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for DeSoto Central, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Germantown was able to grind out a solid win over DeSoto Central in their previous matchup back in August of 2023, winning 24-12. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Perry, who rushed for 78 yards and one TD on only seven carries, and also threw for 73 yards and one touchdown.
