On Saturday, the Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs faced the New Palestine Dragons in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Franklin Community enjoyed a cozy 81-67 win over New Palestine. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Franklin Community's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Micah Davis led the charge by scoring 26 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. Davis is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kolt Nelson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
Despite the defeat, New Palestine had strong showings from Julius Gizzi, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 13 rebounds, and Moses Haynes, who went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 21 points and 3 assists. That was a full 37.3% of New Palestine's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Brady Armstrong was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
The win makes it two in a row for Franklin Community and bumps their season record up to 12-2. As for New Palestine, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Franklin Community and Martinsville will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Martinsville has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 16. As for New Palestine, they will head out on the road to square off against Lawrence North at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Lawrence North is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
