The Guilford Grizzlies will challenge the Ledyard Colonels on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Guilford is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They blew past Avon 20-6.
Sarah O'Brien made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Peton Lemay, who went 4-for-6 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Katie Mull also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Ledyard, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They came out on top against Woodstock Academy by a score of 11-6 on Monday. The Colonels haven't had any issues with the Centaurs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Alexia Lemmon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Faith Dalton was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Bonser, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Ledyard was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Woodstock Academy only posted a batting average of .300.
Ledyard pushed their record up to 20-4 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Guilford, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
Guilford took their victory against Ledyard in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 10-1 score. Will the Grizzlies repeat their success, or do the Colonels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
