Chesnee is 6-1 against the Red Devils since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Chesnee Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Liberty Red Devils at 8:00 p.m. Chesnee is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
Last Tuesday, Chesnee was the victim of a rough 66-46 loss at the hands of the Blazers. Chesnee has struggled against the Blazers recently, as their matchup on Tuesday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Chesnee saw an underclassman step up: Elijah Brown scored 13 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Poole, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Liberty came into Tuesday's matchup having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They breezed by Greenville Tech Charter at home to the tune of 77-49 on Tuesday.
Liberty got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Logan Smith out in front who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Dawson Owen was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
Chesnee's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-12. As for Liberty, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-15.
Friday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Chesnee have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 46.6% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Liberty struggles in that department as they've made 38.9% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Chesnee against the Red Devils in their previous matchup back in January as the team secured a 108-70 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Chesnee since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
