La Pryor is 1-9 against Charlotte since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The La Pryor Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Charlotte Trojans at 6:00 p.m. Charlotte took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on La Pryor, who comes in off a win.
La Pryor headed into their last game having not scored more than two runs for three straight, but Leakey let them put that streak behind them. Everything went La Pryor's way against Leakey on Tuesday as La Pryor made off with a 22-5 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Bulldogs as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Jericko Cervantez and Achilles Pargas were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Cervantez struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Pargas tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Cervantez scored three runs while going 1-for-3, while Pargas went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, La Pryor let Dareon Vasquez and Markus Montellano run wild. Vasquez scored four runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Montellano scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Vasquez a new career-high in RBI (two). Jordan Rios was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
La Pryor always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Charlotte was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Pettus, falling 15-9. One positive for the Trojans, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.
Josh Gaitan was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Gaitan was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, John Cisneros was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Preston Castillo, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
La Pryor's victory bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Charlotte, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
