Buckhannon-Upshur is 1-6 against Lincoln since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. Buckhannon-Upshur will welcome Lincoln at 6:00 p.m. Buckhannon-Upshur is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Buckhannon-Upshur and Preston, and Buckhannon-Upshur kept the tradition alive. Buckhannon-Upshur's pitcher stepped up to hand Preston an 8-0 shutout on Saturday. Considering the Buccaneers have won three contests by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Kynnedy Marple made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Madi Knabenshue was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Quinn Burnside, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Buckhannon-Upshur always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Preston only posted an OBP of .176.
Lincoln's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Doddridge County on Thursday. Lincoln came out on top against East Fairmont by a score of 13-10. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Bees: they've now won five in a row.
The team relied heavily on Aspen Dyer, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Addie Moore was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3.
Lincoln now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Buckhannon-Upshur, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Buckhannon-Upshur hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like Lincoln struggles in that department as they've averaged .383. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
