Olivia Signorino spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 15 Ks. Those 15 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, Penn saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Dwigans, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, South Bend Saint Joseph also suffered a loss in their last game, falling to Carroll by a score of 9-4. The Huskies have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Payton Wulf was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was her first of the season.
Penn's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 16-4. As for South Bend Saint Joseph, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9.
South Bend Saint Joseph's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Penn has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for South Bend Saint Joseph, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Penn keep running through batters, or will the Huskies buck the trend?
