The Somerset Academy Panthers will venture away from home to square off against the Monsignor Pace Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Somerset Academy has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with six straight defeats, while Monsignor Pace will come in with three straight victories.
Somerset Academy came into this matchup off a tough ten-run loss on Wednesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of NSU University by a score of 6-4 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Panthers have suffered since March 11th.
Matthew Fari?as was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Tristan Sierra, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Monsignor Pace made easy work of Dr. Krop on Tuesday and carried off a 16-4 win. The game marked the Spartans' most dominant victory of the season.
Aiden Rivero tossed a big game, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
At the plate, Robert Kramer was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Vazquez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Monsignor Pace always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.
Monsignor Pace's record now sits at 13-7. As for Somerset Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 8-13.
Somerset Academy beat Monsignor Pace 6-2 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
