Softball Recap: Poth Comes Up Short

After flying high against Non Varsity Opponent last Saturday, Poth came back down to earth. The Poth Pirates fell just short of the Cuero Gobblers by a score of 12-11 on Tuesday. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Gobblers recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Bella Serna and Karlee Kroll stepped up to the plate in a big way. Serna went 4-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Kroll went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two doubles. Those doubles marked the first that Kroll hit this season. Another player making a difference was Ava Kroll, who scored three runs while going 4-for-5.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Poth kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Poth's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Cuero, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-4-1.

Coming up, Poth will head out to square off against La Vernia at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Cuero, they will be playing at home against Victoria East at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
