Doyline is 1-9 against Castor since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Doyline Panthers face off against Castor Tigers at 4:30 p.m. Doyline is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Last Tuesday, Doyline made easy work of Mansfield and carried off a 17-8 victory. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Wolverines recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Savannah Stanley made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Stanley was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Doyline let Kaylee Johnson and Karmadie Bartlett run wild. Johnson went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run, while Bartlett scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Lanie Gates, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Doyline always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Monday Castor sidestepped Calvin for a 6-5 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.
Erin Keel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jaidyn Smith and Kaylie Shirley did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one double, while Shirley went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Jenna Braggs was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
Castor now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Doyline, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Doyline hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like Castor struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Doyline suffered a grim 15-1 defeat to Castor when the teams last played back in February. Can Doyline avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
