The Sandia Matadors can now show off 11 landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. They blew past Cibola, posting a 75-15 win at home. Given Sandia's advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Cibola is ranked 116th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sandia's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sydney Benally, who scored 14 points along with eight steals and six rebounds. Benally has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. Hope Giddings was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with four steals.
Sandia's victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-2. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 41.9 points. As for Cibola, they are on a 13-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-13.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sandia won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Del Norte at 2:00 p.m. on January 20th. Cibola won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Organ Mountain at 5:30 p.m. on January 20th.
