Ballston Spa saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Livia Wiltsie, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Wiltsie has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played.
Meanwhile, Hudson Falls got themselves on the board against Gloversville on Wednesday, but Gloversville never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 21-0 margin over the Huskies/Dragons. That looming 21-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Tigers yet this season.
Lainey Dunbar made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Dunbar was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Lily Bump and Madison Sawyer did most of the damage at the plate: Bump went a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and two doubles, while Sawyer got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases Sawyer has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Caliegh Zahaba, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Hudson Falls always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .721. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Hudson Falls' win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Ballston Spa, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Ballston Spa has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .446. However, it's not like Hudson Falls struggles in that department as they've averaged .454. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Ballston Spa's way against Hudson Falls in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Ballston Spa made off with a 14-1 win. Do the Scotties have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
