The Seneca Red Hawks will square off against the Assumption Rockets at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Seneca took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They managed a 49-43 win over Brown.
Seneca can attribute much of their success to Arionna Tunstall, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 20 boards, and Janell Julue, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 17 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Tunstall has scored at least a third of Seneca's points. Another player making a difference was Anari Shelton, who posted six points and five boards.
Seneca smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Assumption faced Notre Dame Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. Assumption secured a 57-53 W over Notre Dame Academy. The victory was familiar territory for the Rockets, who have now won three contests in a row.
Assumption's win came from a few key players Seneca will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Se'Rae Palmer, who went 6-for-12 en route to 13 points in addition to five assists and five steals. That's the most assists she has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyleigh Hall, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds.
Seneca has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-10 record this season. As for Assumption, their win bumped their record up to 19-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Seneca has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 33.2 boards per game. However, it's not like Assumption struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.5 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
