Bellville is 7-1 against Wharton since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Bellville Brahmas will head out on the road to face off against the Wharton Tigers at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Bellville has eight straight victories, Wharton has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Bellville put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season two weeks ago. They blew past Sealy 69-0 at home. Given Bellville's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while Sealy is ranked 579th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bellville relied on the efforts of Sam Hranicky, who rushed for 153 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries, and DD Murray, who rushed for 167 yards and four touchdowns on only 12 carries. Murray was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 63 yards. Adarius Hutchinson made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, Wharton took a serious blow against Sealy on Friday, falling 66-7. Wharton was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-7.
Despite the defeat, Wharton had strong showings from Jacarious Wiley, who rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries, and Jk Baldridge, who rushed for 70 yards on only nine carries.
Bellville's win was their eighth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.6 points per game. As for Wharton, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's match: Bellville has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 423.6 total yards per game. It's a different story for Wharton, though, as they've been averaging only 139.6 per game. Will Bellville be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will Wharton flip the ?
Everything came up roses for Bellville against Wharton in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 60-14 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bellville since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
