The Seneca East Tigers will face off against the Crestview Cougars at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Seneca East and Mohawk meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Tigers fell 8-5 to the Warriors.
Colten Ehresman put in work while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Braydon Robinson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Gunner Polachek, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Crestview, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They put the hurt on New London with a sharp 12-2 win on Friday.
Like Seneca East, Crestview also got a great game from a two-way player: Drew Spoerr. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Spoerr has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI.
In other batting news, Crestview got a massive performance out of Kayn Patton, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Patton has become a key player for the Cougars: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-12 otherwise. Tyson Ringler was another key player, going 1-for-4 with five stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Crestview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Seneca East's loss dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Crestview, their victory bumped their record up to 8-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Seneca East has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Crestview struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
