The Rio Vista Rams had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.5 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Esparto 73-22 on the road. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Rio Vista has managed all season.
It was another big night for Ashlynd Rhett, who scored 25 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 16 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Joseph Flaz, who scored six points along with six steals.
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Angel Torres, who scored eight points along with six rebounds. Andre Oliver was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Rio Vista pushed their record up to 15-7 with that win, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.4 points per game. As for Esparto, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-19.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rio Vista on the road again on Tuesday and play against Vacaville Christian at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th. As for Esparto, they will square off against San Juan at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. San Juan comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
