Even though the Burlington Cougars scored an imposing 57 points on Saturday, the Holyoke Dragons still came out on top. Holyoke managed a 62-57 victory over Burlington. Given Holyoke's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while Burlington is ranked 246th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Holyoke had a senior duo take command as Wyatt Sprague scored 27 points along with seven rebounds and Cash Weber scored 20 points along with eight rebounds. Reid Sprague was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds and six assists.
When it comes to explaining why Burlington lost, one person who can't be blamed is Keziah Williams. Despite the final result, he scored 33 points along with four blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Barnes, who scored five points along with seven rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for Holyoke and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Burlington, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 1-1.
Holyoke and Simla will face off at 4:00 p.m. on December 8th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for Burlington, they will face off against Norton at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Norton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Friday.
