The North Salinas Vikings will face off against the Pioneer Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully North Salinas focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 last Tuesday.
North Salinas had to hit the road for their first game and sadly it wasn't the result they were hoping for. The matchup between North Salinas and Watsonville wasn't particularly close, with North Salinas falling 55-36. North Salinas has struggled against Watsonville recently, as their contest last Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite their defeat, North Salinas saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Shane Taylor, who scored 15 points, was perhaps the best of all. Andre Lizaola was another key contributor, scoring 4 points along with 6 steals.
Meanwhile, Pioneer gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. They breezed by Yerba Buena at home to the tune of 88-37.
North Salinas' loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Pioneer, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
