Wellington hasn't had much luck against Jupiter recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Wolverines will face off against the Warriors at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Wellington is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over Palm Beach Central.
Wellington saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cristian Goncalves, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Jupiter waltzed into their match on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Lancers with a sharp 12-1 win. Considering the Warriors have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Conner Sorge looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Jupiter let Ryan Senecal and Griffin Miller run wild. Senecal went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI, while Miller went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one double. Miller continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Colton Schwarz was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
Jupiter hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive games.
Jupiter pushed their record up to 18-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Wellington, their record now sits at 16-9.
Wellington couldn't quite finish off Jupiter when the teams last played back in March and fell 2-0. Can the Wolverines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
