Two dominant guards in Alexandra Anderson and Hadleigh McGoskey are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Hurricane Redskins are on the road again on Monday and plays the Ravenswood Red Devils at 9:30 a.m. on February 5th. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Thursday, Hurricane took a serious blow against the Patriots, falling 81-49. While losing is never fun, Hurricane can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while the Patriots are ranked first).
Hurricane's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Anderson, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds, and Rylyn Bielinski who scored 11 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bielinski has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Gabby Quijano, who scored eight points along with four steals.
Hurricane struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Ravenswood came up short against the Vikings on Thursday and fell 52-41. Ravenswood has struggled against the Vikings recently, as their game on Thursday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Ravenswood's loss came about despite a quality game from McGoskey, who scored 26 points. That was a full 63.4% of Ravenswood's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Wratchford, who scored nine points.
Hurricane has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season. As for Ravenswood, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-7.
Monday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Hurricane have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Ravenswood, though, as they've been averaging only 8.2 rebounds per game. Given Hurricane's sizable advantage in that area, the Red Devils will need to find a way to close that gap.
