Alexandria is 9-1 against Ruston since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. Alexandria will challenge Ruston at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Alexandria has three straight wins, Ruston has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Tuesday, Alexandria got the win against Neville by a conclusive 17-6. Considering the Trojans have won 13 matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Mary Claire Brinkman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted over her last ten contests.
In other batting news, Alexandria got a massive performance out of Jordyn Turner, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI Turner has posted since back in February. Marlie Fletcher was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-5.
Alexandria kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Ruston lost 14-2 to West Monroe on Tuesday.
Ruston saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aubrey Stoehr, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Alexandria pushed their record up to 19-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Ruston, their loss dropped their record down to 8-12.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Alexandria hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .330. However, it's not like Ruston struggles in that department as they've averaged .338. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Alexandria came out on top in a nail-biter against Ruston in their previous matchup two weeks ago, sneaking past 15-14. The rematch might be a little tougher for Alexandria since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
