Rosewood is 9-1 against Lakewood since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Eagles will look to defend their home field against the Leopards at 6:30 p.m. Rosewood will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Rosewood will bounce into Wednesday's contest after beating North Duplin, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Eagles walked away with a 6-3 win over the Rebels on Tuesday.
McCandless St John made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. St John was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Hayley Bedford was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Vernon, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Lakewood lost 14-4 to Hobbton on Thursday. The Leopards have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Kiyah Braxton made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-2. Fancy Bullard was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.
Rosewood pushed their record up to 13-2 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for Lakewood, their loss dropped their record down to 5-9-1.
Lakewood's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Rosewood has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Lakewood, though, as they've been averaging 9 hits. Given Rosewood's sizable advantage in that area, the Leopards will need to find a way to close that gap.
