David Brantley looked comfortable as he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Landon Cushing was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ethan Webb, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Southampton Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Brunswick Academy made sure to put some runs up on the board against Fuqua on Tuesday. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Falcons. With that victory, the Vikings brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Maddox Sasser was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Sasser was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nathan Talbert, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Nathan Wells was another key player, going a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Brunswick Academy's win bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Southampton Academy, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 13-6.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Southampton Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .475. However, it's not like Brunswick Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .455. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
