Dean Mildren and Christian McKeever stepped up to the plate in a big way. Mildren went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while McKeever went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Meanwhile, South Lewis entered their tilt with Belleville Henderson Central on Wednesday with nine consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with ten. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Panthers a 16-0 shutout. With that win, the Falcons brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Conner Carpenter and Maddox Morrison were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Carpenter tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Morrison didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. At the plate, Carpenter earned one run and two stolen bases, while Morrison got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Shaun McManus was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Thomas Spann, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one run.
South Lewis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
South Lewis' victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Sackets Harbor Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Sackets Harbor Central has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like South Lewis struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Sackets Harbor Central suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to South Lewis when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Patriots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
