With a playoff game on the line, Somerset Academy - Canyons rose to the challenge on Friday. They claimed a resounding 75-44 win over the Eagles on the road. Somerset Academy - Canyons has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matches by 24 points or more this season.
Somerset Academy - Canyons' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Alanna Fabrini led the charge by scoring 15 points along with six assists and six rebounds. Fabrini hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Alana Pinnock, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Mater Lakes Academy's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. Their rough 75-52 loss to Cardinal Gibbons might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Mater Lakes Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 148th, while Cardinal Gibbons is ranked 40th).
Somerset Academy - Canyons is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. As for Mater Lakes Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 13-11.
