The Wilde Lake Wildecats will challenge the Howard Lions at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Having struggled with five losses in a row, Wilde Lake turned things around against Oakland Mills on Thursday. They blew past the Scorpions 12-1. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Wildecats' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Camille Coleman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 13 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, firing off three triples, five RBI, and two runs while going 3-for-4. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Wilde Lake let Olivia Bixler and Betsy Alt run wild. Bixler went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Alt got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave Alt a new career-high. Astra Watson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Wilde Lake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, while Howard put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Oakland Mills. The Lions put the hurt on the Scorpions with a sharp 18-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won seven contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Sophia Krmenec and Kiersten Black were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Krmenec struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Black pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Krmenec went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and two doubles, while Black got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Howard got a massive performance out of Meleah Hannie, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that Hannie has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hadley Coleman, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Wilde Lake's win bumped their record up to 2-11. As for Howard, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.
Wilde Lake's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. The Wildecats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Howard, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Wilde Lake continue to outrun the ball?
Wilde Lake might still be hurting after the 17-0 defeat they got from Howard when the teams last played back in March of 2025. Can the Wildecats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
