Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Wheeler

Wheeler entered their tilt with Lyman Memorial on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 7-3 win over the Bulldogs. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 2-0 back in April.

James Main and Garett Lenihan made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Main struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Meanwhile, Lenihan struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Those 11 strikeouts gave Main a new career-high. At bat, Main got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Lenihan got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. That home run was Main's first of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Luke Dowry, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season.

Wheeler hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matchups.

Wheeler pushed their record up to 6-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lyman Memorial, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.

Wheeler didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 7-3 victory against Concord Academy on the 7th. As for Lyman Memorial, they will head out to challenge Bacon Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bobcats' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
