The Regents Lions are taking a road trip to square off against the Blue Ridge Jays at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Regents had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 14-run drubbing they dealt Timberlake Christian on Friday. The Lions blew past the Tornadoes 17-3. The win was nothing new for the Lions as they're now sitting on three straight.
Grady Sawyer made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4.

In other batting news, Regents got a massive performance out of Luke Trivette, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave Trivette a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Levi Trivette, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Regents always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
19 must be Blue Ridge's lucky number: they beat Faith Baptist with that score not once but twice on Saturday. The Jays were the clear victors by a 19-1 margin over Faith Baptist. That looming 19-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Jays yet this season.
Like Regents, Blue Ridge also got a great game from a two-way player: Taylor Rhodes. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Rhodes was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs while going 2-for-3. Those hits marked the first that he got this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caleb Shank, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Finn Birdsong also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Regents pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Blue Ridge, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-4.
Both Regents and Blue Ridge just can't seem to miss. The Lions have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. However, it's not like Blue Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Regents might still be hurting after the 12-4 defeat they got from Blue Ridge in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
