There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. The action included a dizzyingly high 110-point combined score from Neshoba Central and Vicksburg.
Welcome
Lawrence County was the better team in every quarter against Forrest County Agricultural last week and consequently the better team overall. Lawrence County picked up a decisive 'W' against Forrest County Agricultural, finishing up at 51 - 0. One of the main ringleaders for Lawrence County was junior Kylan Cooper, who earned four touchdowns and 193 yards rushing the ball. The win also thrust Lawrence County into the power rankings, where the team now holds the 25th spot.
Can't Touch This
Neshoba Central got a 68 - 42 win over Vicksburg last week, and a key reason for the win was sophomore Jarquez Hunter. Hunter rushed for 208 yards and three touchdowns. That performance made Hunter one of the best players in the power rankings last week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of the hottest tickets last week involved the clash between Northwest Rankin (4th in the MaxPreps state rankings) and Starkville (3rd). Northwest Rankin finished ahead of Starkville by a score of 27 - 20. Starkville had come in flaunting an aggressive defense allowing an average of only 8.33 points per game, but that obviously didn't scare off Northwest Rankin.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between Madison-Ridgeland Academy (7th in the power rankings) and Jackson Academy (9th). Madison-Ridgeland Academy is backed by a win while Jackson Academy is motivated by a recent defeat. Will Madison-Ridgeland Academy repeat its success, or will Jackson Academy bounce back and dish team a loss? Check back after their contest Friday for the full scoop.
