After a string of four wins, the Heritage Christian Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They were outmatched by First Baptist on the road and fell 72-35. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Heritage Christian in their matchups with the Saints: they've now lost four in a row.
Heritage Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Ali Orchard and Deanna Montgomery. Orchard dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds, while Montgomery scored nine points along with four steals. It was the first time this season that Orchard scored 15 or more points.
First Baptist was led to victory by Emily Kate Jones and Meredith Quinn. Jones dropped a double-double on 33 points and 12 rebounds, while Quinn dropped a triple-double on 24 points, 11 rebounds, and ten steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Jones has scored at least a third of First Baptist's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kolbie Gillispie, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Heritage Christian's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-7. As for First Baptist, their win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 23-3.
Heritage Christian will take on the at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for First Baptist, they will head out on the road to face off against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Greenville Christian is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
