Petaluma is 9-1 against Napa since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Trojans will look to defend their home field against the Grizzlies at 4:30 p.m. Petaluma is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
The home team had won the previous six meetings between Petaluma and Vintage, and Vintage kept the tradition alive. The Trojans took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Crushers on Monday. The Trojans haven't had much luck with the Crushers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Lauren Wilson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Taylor Pellonari, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Napa came into Friday's game having lost 15 straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They blew past Justin-Siena 11-1 two weeks ago. The Grizzlies' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Peyton Miller tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk).
On the hitting side, Napa let Kayla Clark and Carlee Daniels run wild. Clark went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Daniels went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those two runs gave Clark a new career-high. Baylee Sinan was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Napa hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Justin-Siena struck out six times.
Napa's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 3-15. As for Petaluma, their loss dropped their record down to 11-8-1.
Napa's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Petaluma has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Napa, though, as they've been averaging 8.9 hits. Given Petaluma's sizable advantage in that area, the Grizzlies will need to find a way to close that gap.
Petaluma got the 'W' in their previous matchup on April 3rd against Napa by a conclusive 13-2 score. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Grizzlies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
