Basketball Recap: Balboa Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins at Home

If Balboa was feeling good fresh off their 78-54 takedown of Prince George's Christian Academy last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Balboa Roughriders took a 76-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Southern Coast Academy National Rams. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Roughriders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 79-69 back in November of 2024.

Despite the loss, Balboa still got an impressive performance from Travis Musonda, who went 12 of 20 en route to 28 points. Musonda's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Apolo Caetano, who posted 11 points in addition to seven assists and five boards.

Even though they lost, Balboa was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.

Balboa's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-17. As for Southern Coast Academy National, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.

Balboa will take on West Oaks Academy at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday. West Oaks Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Southern Coast Academy National, they will challenge Jordan Christian Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Southern Coast Academy National knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 16 games -- so hopefully Jordan Christian Prep likes a good challenge.
