The Preble Shawnee Arrows will challenge the National Trail Blazers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Preble Shawnee is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Last Tuesday, Preble Shawnee didn't have quite enough to beat Arcanum and fell 5-4.
Mattie Colburn put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Colburn was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Colburn wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kendra Sheard, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. Sofia Jones was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, National Trail sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over Carroll on Saturday. That's two games straight that the Blazers have won by just one run.
Like Preble Shawnee, National Trail also got a great game from a two-way player: Summer Martin. Throwing, Martin tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Morgan House struck out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Martin has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Martin went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI, while House scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carley Hamm, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Reynolds, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.
The victory made it two in a row for National Trail and bumps their season record up to 4-5. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Preble Shawnee, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
Preble Shawnee came up short against National Trail in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, falling 13-10. Can the Arrows avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
