The Catskill Cats will challenge the Taconic Hills Titans at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Catskill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Catskill had taken Hudson down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Thursday. The Cats fell just short of the Bluehawks by a score of 8-7. The loss was the Cats' first of the season.
Will Cummings was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Cummings is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Collin Minkalis, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Taconic Hills strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They never let Greenville get on the board and left with an 18-0 win.
Tristan Super made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Super was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 2-for-5. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Francis Conners-Schmid, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Alvarez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5.
Taconic Hills pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average this season. As for Catskill, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Catskill has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .467. However, it's not like Taconic Hills struggles in that department as they've averaged .487. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Catskill might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Taconic Hills in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Cats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
