Lawrence County hasn't had much luck against Loretto recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to square off against the Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
It was a proper cat-fight when Lawrence County challenged Marshall County on Tuesday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 11-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won eight matches by ten runs or more so far this season.
Lawrence County got a great performance from Truitt Kidd as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Kidd also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Wildcats are 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-9 otherwise.

At the plate, Alex Bedford was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Lawrence County is 8-2 when Bedford posts two or more runs, but 5-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jack Emerson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
Lawrence County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Loretto). They blew past Richland 21-9 on Thursday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 22, 2016, but that streak is no more.
Lucas Laxson made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brayden Bennett, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Jayden Aaron also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Loretto's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-13. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Lawrence County, their record is now 13-11.
Loretto's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lawrence County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .312. It's a different story for Loretto, though, as they've only averaged .231. Will they be able to contain Lawrence County's hitters?
Lawrence County suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Loretto in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
