The Sullivan Redskins will take on the Heritage Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Sullivan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Sullivan and Cumberland meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Redskins blew past the Pirates 9-3. Considering the Redskins have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Aeralyn Thrasher made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. Thrasher was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs.
In other batting news, Harmony Ray was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Piper Conlin, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Sullivan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 10-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Heritage was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 18th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Blue Ridge, falling 13-0.
Heritage saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bre Patten, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Sullivan pushed their record up to 15-10 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Heritage, their loss dropped their record down to 0-15.
Heritage's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sullivan hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. It's a different story for Heritage, though, as they've only averaged .227. Will they be able to contain Sullivan's hitters?
Sullivan took their victory against Heritage when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 16-0 score. Do the Redskins have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
