Basketball Game Preview: Lancaster Bruins vs. Richland Northeast Cavaliers

The Lancaster Bruins will venture away from home to square off against the Richland Northeast Cavaliers at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Lancaster knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 matches -- so hopefully Richland Northeast likes a good challenge.

Lancaster is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They came out on top against Cannon by a score of 94-82 on Saturday. Given the Bruins' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked third in South Carolina, while the Cougars are ranked 136th in North Carolina), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lancaster's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Columbus Parker, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten boards, and Jordan Watford, who went 12 of 17 on his way to 27 points and seven rebounds. The game was Watford's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacarey Ballard, who went 8 of 11 on his way to 20 points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Richland Northeast ended up a good deal behind J.L. Mann on Saturday and lost 64-48.

Richland Northeast has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season. As for Lancaster, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.

Lancaster skirted past Richland Northeast 35-33 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Will Lancaster repeat their success, or does Richland Northeast have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
