The Campo Verde Coyotes will square off against the Mountain Pointe Pride at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Campo Verde is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Campo Verde took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Arizona College Prep as Campo Verde made off with a 12-6 win. The Coyotes not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 1st.
Campo Verde got a great performance from Luke Girard as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Wyatt Rauch, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February. Another player making a difference was Ezekiel Zion, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Campo Verde kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Mountain Pointe waltzed into their match on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against Milwaukie. That's two games straight that the Pride have won by just one run.
Mountain Pointe's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ivan Lopez, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. Jacob Francisco also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Mountain Pointe's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-10. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Campo Verde, their win bumped their record up to 8-6.
Campo Verde took their victory against Mountain Pointe when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 9-3. Will Campo Verde repeat their success, or does Mountain Pointe has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
