New Ulm Cathedral walked away with a 66-53 victory over Minnesota Valley Lutheran. The victory was all the more spectacular given New Ulm Cathedral's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while Minnesota Valley Lutheran is ranked 72nd).
New Ulm Cathedral's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Isaac Miller, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Miller has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Zach Gieseke, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
New Ulm Cathedral's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-5. As for Minnesota Valley Lutheran, their defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Ulm Cathedral on the road again on Thursday and play against Wabasso at 6:00 p.m. on January 25th. Wabasso is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home. As for Minnesota Valley Lutheran, they will head out on the road to take on Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last ten games.
