Grantsville has gone 9-1 against South Summit recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Cowboys will head out to square off against the Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
South Summit will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Grantsville extended their winning streak to nine on Monday. The Cowboys' pitcher stepped up to hand Enterprise a 10-0 shutout.
Hayden Bytheway was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emmy Butler, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Elise Smith was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, South Summit made sure to put some runs up on the board against Ben Lomond on Friday. The Wildcats blew past the Scots 19-1. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Scots recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Like Grantsville, South Summit also got a great game from a two-way player: Toshlyn Louder. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Louder was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Mariah Bowen was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, eight RBI, and four runs. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Malia Olson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
South Summit always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .821. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Grantsville's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for South Summit, their record now sits at 12-10.
South Summit's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Grantsville has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.2 hits per game. It's a different story for South Summit, though, as they've been averaging 8.7 hits. Given Grantsville's sizable advantage in that area, the Wildcats will need to find a way to close that gap.
Grantsville took their victory against South Summit in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 15-8 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cowboys since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
