After a string of seven wins, Seguin's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 46-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jefferson Mustangs. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Matadors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 59-58 back in December of 2024.
Several Matadors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Corey Dailey, who posted seven points along with 14 rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Cameron Juarez-Bruns, who put up ten points.
Jefferson got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Nico Vela out in front who earned 15 points and six boards. That's the most rebounds Vela has posted since back in January of 2024. Trey Perez was another key player, putting up 15 points and three steals.
Seguin's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-14. As for Jefferson, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 17-11.
Seguin will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Highlands at 6:30 p.m. on February 4th. As for Jefferson, they will face off against Edison at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Jefferson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.3 points per game this season.
