It was a good run, but the Armstrong River Hawks unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 44-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of Neshannock. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Armstrong has scored all season.
Armstrong lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jack Valasek, who scored 12 points. The match was Valasek's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Riggle, who scored 14 points.
Armstrong's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-2. As for Neshannock, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Armstrong will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Wheeling Central Catholic at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Wheeling Central Catholic knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Armstrong likes a good challenge. Neshannock will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Beaver Falls at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2024.
