Madylinn Grindstaff made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Koera Leitzel, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Mateyah Teter, who earned two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Montgomery put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Sullivan County as they made off with a 12-2 win. Considering the Red Raiders have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Line Mountain, Montgomery also got a great game from a two-way player: Ava Hartman. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Hartman was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Madisyn Miller was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Chloe Gordner was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Montgomery hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive games.
Montgomery pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Line Mountain, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
