The Timberline Wolves will head out on the road to face off against the Eagle Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Timberline has now lost nine straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 14.
Things were looking good for Timberline after they put the first points on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 11-7 to Centennial. That's two games in a row now that the Wolves have lost by exactly four runs.
Vinny Peters was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Isaac Mills and Aidan Messerschmitt stepped up to the plate in a big way. Mills went 2-for-4 with one home run, while Messerschmitt went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That home run was Mills' first of the season. Another player making a difference was Diego Baker, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Eagle fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Rocky Mountain on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Grizzlies by a score of 3-2.
Caleb Zawadzki spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, Eagle saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dallin Snooks, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, one triple, and two RBI.
Timberline's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Eagle, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
Timberline couldn't quite get it done against Eagle when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 6-1. Can the Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
