5A Region II District 12 recap Oct. 31, 2012
Mesquite extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region II District 12 this week by beating Lee, 51-9. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.
North Mesquite moved up to 404 from 450 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Stallions climbed the ranks as a result of losing to Longview 52-3.
Horn's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Destri White threw for 150 and one touchdown and Brian O'Bannon had 83 yards receiving. On the ground White chipped in 81 yards. Jacob Meyer helped Horn's passing attack out by catching four balls for 32 yards.
Mesquite's Alex Cooper and Rashard Higgins have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Cooper has thrown for 2071 yards this season, while Higgins has 43 catches for 810 yards. Chris Warren from Rockwall leads the league in rushing with 943 yards.
Treyvon Marsh has rushed for 943 yards on 161 carries so far this year.
A big matchup in 5A Region II District 12 this week will be when the Yellowjackets take on Robbie Robinson's team. Rockwall is currently in fifth, while the Skeeters are in first.
The Jaguars were able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting Rockwall-Heath. Horn came in at 21 in the state poll after placing at number 26 last week.
