The Virginia Academy Patriots 's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Steward Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on February 5th. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Monday, Virginia Academy came up short against the Cadets and fell 60-53. While losing is never fun, Virginia Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 177th, while the Cadets are ranked 27th).
Despite their defeat, Virginia Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Kevin Reyes Jr., who scored 13 points, was perhaps the best of all. Deng Wutchok was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two blocks.
Meanwhile, Steward's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight defeat. They fell to Virginia Episcopal School 55-51.
Like Virginia Academy, Steward lost despite seeing results from several players. Owen Gray led the charge by scoring 14 points. Another player making a difference was Ben Vaughn, who scored 12 points.
Virginia Academy's loss dropped their record down to 4-18. As for Steward, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-9 record this season.
Monday's match is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Virginia Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Steward struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
