The Catholic Crusaders and the Maury Commodores, after both having extra time off, will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Maury took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Catholic, who comes in off a win.
Having struggled with seven losses in a row, Catholic turned things around against Collegiate last Wednesday. They never let the Cougars get on the board and left with a 14-0 win. The contest marked the Crusaders' most dominant victory of the season.
Gia Kalapinski made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Gabbi McDermott and Skyler Sharp did most of the damage at the plate: McDermott went 3-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Sharp went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That stolen base marked the first that McDermott has snagged this season. Sophia Reaume was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The home team had won the previous six meetings between Maury and Salem, and Salem kept the tradition alive. The Commodores came up short against the Sundevils last Friday, falling 16-0. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Commodores were not able to get on the board.
The win was their first on the road, bumping their record up to 3-7. As for Maury, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Catholic suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Maury when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Crusaders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
